I just applied for this awesome job that I really want. It is now depending on that the company finds me insurable for driving a company vehicle. I havent had any traffic tickets or anything since 7/04. But prior to that, I had a suspension for too many points. The points were from speeding tickets, mostly 5 overs. I am sure the points have dropped off by now, but the violations are still on my record. Anyone out there work for an insurance company and know if I would be insurable?
The car is a mini cooper, so I am not sure if that qualifies as commerical or not. The suspension was because I had too many points ,which are all off my record now. As of 4/07 I have not had any violations. I am hoping that good behavior has shown I learned my lesson.

When they do a background driving check, they go back FIVE years. It will be difficult and expensive to insure you for a commercial vehicle until 8/09.

in tx tickets saty on your record for 3 yrs accidents are chargeable for 4 yrs and remain on your record for 5yrs. we do not use the point system even though they have threatned us with it. so in the state of tx i dont see a problem of insureing you just slow your keester down and obey traffic laws.

A suspension in the last 5 yrs is bad, a suspension in the last 3 yrs is really really bad. Some companies only look back 3 yrs., but most look at 5 yrs.
My guess is your going to have a really hard time being insured by any commercial carrier until next month and depending on the carrier your company uses, it could be longer.

Some places do three years, some do five. Go to an independent agent with lots of companies, be honest about your record, and that you’d like to know what they can do for you (they’ll even be able to find a place if you’ve got a DUI). Ask them the prices they got at the different companies. The bigger problem may be that not too many companies will write a policy for you if you haven’t had or been on a policy. Tell the agent you’ll want to be shopped once you have 6 months under your belt. Talk about he various coverages, too, to make sure you’re not just getting the shoddiest coverage.
