The reason healthcare costs are so high is because people can sue for millions and millions of dollars if a doctor puts one too many stitches in your finger and you were caused severe emotional distress. Doctors need to purchase high cost insurance plans to cover their ass incase someone sues them, therefore they need to raise the cost of their services to cover their expenses. Reform the laws regarding law suites, save billions of dollars, healthcare costs go down drastically… why isn’t this even mention in the new plan?

I’m happy with generalities, but if anyone has info specific to NY, that’d be helpful. I am curious really about two things: (1) Do doctors typically carry separate insurance beyond what is covered under the hospital’s insurance policy? (2) Does the hospital provide a separate policy for each individual doctor or clinic, or is it one big pool for the whole hospital?

I am aware of a situation in which a hospital’s insurance is about to be expended, but there are ongoing claims against individual doctors.

I am a junior in high school and i am considering being an obstetrician and i know i need years of schooling and good grades but i also read something about how they have to pay malpractice insurance.. any ideas on a rough estimate on how much it is?
and what a obstetrician salary from starting out to an experienced one and how much it will cost to go to school to be one
