What happens to a life insurance payout after a medical assistance patient dies?

Life Insurance 3 Comments »
judson asked:

Say my parent has a life insurance policy, but depletes their assets and becomes eligible for medical assistance to pay for nursing home or medical costs. What happens to the payout to the beneficiary after that person’s death? Is it even worth keeping up such a policy in that case? Thanks.

If someone has two health insurance coverage, how does coordination of benefits work?

Cissy M asked:

My friend was in an auto accident, and the health insurance from the auto insurer is her primary health insurance for the accident. She also has regular health insurance from another company. If the auto insurer pays 80% of her auto accident medical costs, and her secondary insurance normally pays 70% of her medical costs, then how would the secondary insurance treat a $1000 bill, for example? The auto insurer pays $800 of the $1000 bill (80%), but how much would the secondary health insurer pay?

Auto insurance covers medical costs from an accident when auto insurance is selected as the primary health insurance for an accident. She therefore has two health insurance coverages in terms of her auto injuries only.

Do life insurance companies check your medical records after you die?

Dick J asked:

Let’s say that you get life insurance and claim to be a non-smoker. Then let’s say that you start smoking or resume smoking. Assuming that your medical records show that you smoked, will most life insurance companies check your records, see that you smoked, and then cancel your benefit?

Can the auto insurance company pay me directly for my medical expenses or do they have to pay the doctor?

Lorraine asked:

I was in an auto accident and I have medical insurance. My medical insurance covered my medical expenses; however, I wanted to know if the auto insurance is still liable for those expenses? It seems as if my having medical insurance should benefit me and not the liable party’s auto insurance company. If I did not have medical insurance the auto insurance company would still have to pay for those expenses. So shouldn’t they still have to pay for those expenses and I get what ever is left that my medical insurance company did not pay? Are there any laws statures that back this up in Georgia? I am trying to settle this claim without getting an attorney and I need all the help I can get. Any advice would be helpful. I am in the process of writing a demand letter. Thanks for all the help.
